5 Nov 2018 wellness-studio.co.uk

Why is overweight harmful? Overweight is considered by modern medicine as an aesthetic and cosmetic problem, as well as a factor contributing to the emergence of many chronic and acute diseases. According to the WHO, approximately every tenth person in the world suffers from excess weight, and this number is progressing. All people suffering from increased body mass index should know the dangers they are exposed to. So, why is overweight harmful to people?
Doctors warn that overweight is a factor that directly affects life expectancy. Only 60% of people suffering from excess mass live to be sixty years old, less than 10% live longer than 80 years.
A surplus of weight affects all systems and organs. The most dangerous pathologies from the extensive list of diseases associated with obesity are:

  • Hypertension, atherosclerosis, strokes, heart attacks and other diseases of the heart and blood vessels;
  • Type II diabetes and its complications: loss of vision, angiopathy, neuropathy;
  • Oncological diseases (colon and uterus cancer);
  • Joint and spinal diseases - arthritis, arthrosis, osteochondrosis, protrusions and hernia;
  • Shortness of breath and respiratory failure;
  • Erectile dysfunction in men;
  • Infertility in women;
  • Kidney disease;
  • Household injuries.
People with obesity suffer from psychological disorders associated with their appearance. Such diseases are especially pronounced in the female. People who are obese are often exposed to social discrimination at home and at work. So why is overweight harmful to health?

What is overweight: diseases

Overweight women are at an increased risk of getting cancer of the breast, uterus, and large intestine. The colon cancer also applies to the male population, as well as cancer of the prostate and rectum. Some types of malignant tumours develop exclusively in obese people.
An additional danger factor is the difficulty of early detection of cancer in overweight patients. The fatty layer can hide the presence of a tumour until the very last stages of the disease when it becomes difficult to provide adequate therapy.
A high mass index is digestive diseases such as cholecystitis, pancreatitis, gastritis, and an ulcer. Excess weight affects the urinary system, contributing to the formation of kidney stones, urinary incontinence. Obese often develop other pathologies of the endocrine system and metabolic processes (besides diabetes) such as gout, adrenal and thyroid dysfunctions. The presence of excess fat adversely affects the lungs, so, obese people often suffer from asthma, shortness of breath.
In most cases, obesity can be prevented. It is much simpler, cheaper and more desirable than to engage in weight stabilisation in the future. People who are prone to rapid weight gain should be involved in diet therapy and obesity prevention at a young age. We found out why overweight is harmful, and colonic irrigation will help cleanse the body of accumulated toxins.
