10-session colonic irrigation course in London

Four Seasons is a structured course of 10 colonic irrigation sessions at Parkland Natural Health in Holborn, Central London. It is designed for clients who want a longer programme with continuity and regular therapist review rather than booking separate appointments.

Some clients choose the course because they are interested in bowel regularity, incomplete emptying, bloating, trapped wind or a sluggish bowel. Ten appointments also give your therapist more opportunities to review how you respond between sessions and adapt later appointments where appropriate.

The course does not need to follow the same timetable for every client. Your therapist can discuss the spacing of your appointments according to your bowel habits, previous experience and response to treatment.

What is included in the Four Seasons course?

  • 10 colonic irrigation appointments using our closed-system, gravity-fed equipment.
  • Personal consultation to discuss bowel habits, digestive comfort and your reasons for choosing the course.
  • Suitability screening before treatment begins.
  • Warm filtered water with controlled filling and release.
  • Gentle abdominal massage where appropriate for comfort and release.
  • Regular review between appointments so your therapist can consider your response throughout the course.

Booking the package online also gives you the current 19% online saving.

Why choose 10 sessions?

A single colonic may suit someone who wants to experience colon hydrotherapy for the first time. A three-session course offers a short structured programme, while our six-session Spring Cleanse provides a longer course.

Four Seasons is intended for clients who want even greater continuity over a series of appointments. The additional sessions allow more opportunities to discuss changes in bowel habits, comfort and emptying with your therapist as the course progresses.

Importantly, research has studied repeated bowel and transanal irrigation, rather than proving that exactly 10 professional colonics are better than six. We therefore use the evidence as clinical context for repeated irrigation rather than promising a particular result from a 10-session course.

What does research show about repeated bowel irrigation?

Researchers have studied repeated bowel irrigation in people with chronic constipation and bowel-emptying difficulties.

A 2025 systematic review examined 16 studies involving 1,567 people with chronic constipation and/or faecal incontinence. Most observational studies reported improvements in symptoms, quality of life or both. However, the authors also highlighted the need for more high-quality randomised trials.

Scientific source: PubMed PMID 41168141 – Transanal irrigation in chronic constipation and faecal incontinence.

A 2026 multicentre study followed 216 adults with functional constipation during long-term follow-up. Participants reported lower constipation severity and greater satisfaction with bowel function.

Scientific source: PubMed PMID 42011892 – Transanal Irrigation in Functional Constipation: Long-term Results.

An earlier prospective study of retrograde colonic irrigation also reported improvements in bowel-emptying symptoms in selected patients, including less feeling of incomplete evacuation.

Scientific source: PubMed PMID 18720454 – Prospective study of colonic irrigation for defaecation disorders.

These medical irrigation protocols are not identical to professional colon hydrotherapy at Parkland Natural Health. Nevertheless, they provide useful evidence that repeated irrigation has been studied as a bowel-management approach for selected people.

Colon filling and normal bowel reflexes

Colon hydrotherapy involves controlled filling and release. Human physiological research shows that rectal filling can engage normal sensory and motor responses involved in the urge to defecate and bowel emptying.

In one human study, researchers described a recto-colic reflex. When rectal filling produced the urge to empty the bowel, pressure and contractions increased in the left colon.

Scientific source: PubMed PMID 9028993 – Recto-colic reflex: role in the defecation mechanism.

This provides useful physiological context for controlled filling and release. However, we do not claim that repeated colon hydrotherapy permanently strengthens bowel muscles or guarantees independence from laxatives.

Abdominal massage and bowel comfort

Where appropriate, your therapist may use gentle abdominal massage during the session. Researchers have also studied abdominal massage in adults with chronic constipation.

A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis reported improvements in bowel-movement frequency and constipation symptoms following abdominal massage.

Scientific source: PubMed PMID 39531948 – Effectiveness of abdominal massage on chronic constipation in adults.

This research concerns abdominal massage rather than colon hydrotherapy itself, but it provides relevant evidence for one of the supportive techniques we may use during an appointment.

Who may choose the Four Seasons course?

The 10-session package may appeal to clients who:

  • want a longer structured programme rather than one, three or six appointments;
  • are interested in more regular or predictable bowel emptying;
  • experience a feeling of incomplete evacuation;
  • are interested in support for bloating, trapped wind or a sluggish bowel;
  • already have experience of colon hydrotherapy and prefer ongoing appointments;
  • want regular therapist review throughout a longer course;
  • want the better-value 19% online package price.

Persistent constipation, unexplained abdominal pain, rectal bleeding or a lasting change in bowel habits should also be assessed appropriately by a GP or another healthcare professional.

What happens during each appointment?

Your therapist uses our closed-system, gravity-fed colon hydrotherapy setup with warm filtered water. Throughout the appointment, the therapist controls filling and release according to your comfort and feedback.

Gentle abdominal massage may also support comfort and release. At later appointments, your therapist can discuss how you responded since your previous session and adapt the treatment where appropriate.

You can also discuss specialist options such as sodium bicarbonate, herbal preparations or probiotic implants. These are not automatically included in the Four Seasons package, and your therapist can explain suitability and any additional cost.

How should I prepare?

A quick tip: don’t drink any liquids two hours before your procedure. Besides, do not take laxatives or drink coffee before and after treatment. However, you don’t need to fast before or after visiting us.

Is the Four Seasons course suitable for everyone?

Consultation and suitability screening are included. If screening shows that colon hydrotherapy is not appropriate for you, we will not proceed and we will give you a full refund.

You can also review our colonic irrigation suitability, restrictions and contraindications before booking.

Would a shorter course suit you better?

If you are completely new to colon hydrotherapy, you may prefer to start with our single colonic irrigation session with consultation.

For a shorter structured programme, see our Mini Detox – 3 Colonic Irrigation Course or our Spring Cleanse – 6 Colonic Irrigation Course.

You can also compare all our colonic irrigation treatments and packages.

    This set of treatments was extremely useful as part of a detox and weight loss programme. I not only lost weight quickly but also felt great too. Side benefits also included reduced hunger and sleeping like a log! This clinic is a wonderful find, very professional and great at what they do. Highly recomnended.*

  2. Demetrios Loukas

    I have recently been treated with antibiotics for Lyme’s disease and my physicians recommended I have colonic irrigation upon finishing my course of IV and oral antibiotics. Seeing as I have used The Wellness Studio before to successfully remedy intestinal candidiasis, constipation and bloating (all caused by antibiotic therapy in my teens and early 20s), I returned once again for more treatment. The practitioner is well-informed, very knowledgeable, super-professional and always respectful. I highly recommend the Wellness Studio. *

    It wouldn’t be exaggerating to say that the colon hydrotherapy treatment that I received at the clinic has been a life changer. I’d been suffering from chronic and severe constipation for 10 years and had become entirely dependent on drugs. I knew this wasn’t sustainable in the long-term but it was so bad without the laxatives that I couldn’t face stopping to take them. However, when my husband and I decided to plan for a baby, I knew I seriously had to do something about it as this was incompatible with being pregnant. The treatment has allowed me to recover a fully functional colon within a year (which seemed completely unimaginable even a few months before…). I am now 3 months pregnant and although constipation is a classic pregnancy disagreement, I can happily say it is not one I suffer from! I can’t recommend this treatment enough and you can count on the very high professionalism of the clinic to provide with the best possible care *

    I had gallstones and went about trying the gallbladder flush to the letter which meant having a before and after colonic..glad to say it was successful. Very professional service, with lots of good advice. I am very happy and satisfied and highly recommend Parkland Natural Health*
