Do You Need an Enema Before Colon Hydrotherapy?
No routine enema is required before a standard colon hydrotherapy appointment at Parkland Natural Health. You also do not need to “clean out” the bowel beforehand.
The treatment itself uses warm filtered water introduced gradually through our closed-system, gravity-fed setup. Preparation advice is kept practical, and there is no routine requirement to fast or take laxatives solely for a colonic.
Constipation and Bloating
Constipation and bloating are common reasons people contact us, but they can have many possible causes. Colon hydrotherapy should not substitute for medical assessment when symptoms are persistent, severe or unexplained.
For ordinary constipation, NHS guidance recommends measures including gradually increasing dietary fibre, drinking enough fluids, remaining physically active and maintaining a regular toilet routine. A pharmacist can advise about laxatives where appropriate.
Seek medical advice if you have blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal pain, recurrent bloating or a significant change in bowel habit.
No Procedure Is Completely Risk-Free
Colon hydrotherapy should not be described as having “no side effects”. Suitability screening matters because bowel cleansing procedures can carry risks, particularly for people with certain gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, kidney or other medical conditions.
