WHAT IS AN ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTION?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a simple, non-surgical procedure that relaxes the muscles of your face to smooth deep, persistent lines between eyebrows, on the forehead and around the eyes (Crow’s feet). One 10-minute treatment – a few tiny injections will relax muscles for up to 4 months.

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN?

Bacteria produce botulinum, which is a toxic substance. Then laboratories highly refine, purify, dilute and use it in therapeutic doses. Physicians administer Botulinum or Anti-wrinkle injections by injecting it into a specific facial muscle, where it acts as a muscle relaxant.

Who would benefit from Anti-wrinkle Injections?

Anyone can benefit from botulinum toxin, both men and women. Botulinum is most effective in improving lines or wrinkles due to facial expressions, for example, worry lines or frown lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows. It is because, usually, over-active muscles cause these lines. And the treatment stops these muscles from contracting and causing wrinkles. You should not have treatment with botulinum if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a neurological disease or have a known hypersensitivity to it.

How long do Anti-wrinkle Injections take?

In most cases, the treatment will take between 10 and 20 minutes. Effects will appear quickly within 48 to 72 hours, although the full extent of the medicine may not be visible for up to 10 days. It may take approximately two weeks after the first treatment. Your practitioner will review the effects and discuss any further treatments, anti-wrinkle injections, or top-ups.

Is the treatment uncomfortable?

Physicians use very tiny needles and administer only small amounts. As a result, any discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived; there is no need for local anaesthesia.

Are there any adverse effects?

In a small number of cases, there may be some localised bruising, slight swelling, or redness at the injection site. It usually disappears quickly and can respond to applying a cold pack to the area. A temporary drooping eyelid has also occurred in some patients. See the manufacturer’s information for rare side effects. Thousands of patients had anti-wrinkle injections over the last fifteen years. They had it in a controlled laboratory environment, highly purified, and administered in tiny quantities. It has an excellent safety profile. You can resume normal daily activities as soon as your treatment is over.

Do the effects of this treatment look artificial?

Unlike some surgical facelifts, this kind of treatment is particular and works only on those muscles producing the facial lines you want to reduce. Other muscles are unaffected, so your usual facial expressions remain the same.

How long will the effects of this treatment last?

Initially, the improvement you receive from this treatment will last from 3 to 4 months. You will notice a gradual fading of effect, and at this stage, you can return for another treatment if you want to. With repeated treatments with anti-wrinkle injections, the effect lasts longer.
