16-session colonic hydrotherapy programme in London
Our 16-session colonic hydrotherapy programme is the most structured course available at Parkland Natural Health in Holborn, Central London. It is designed for clients who want continuity, regular therapist review and a longer programme rather than booking separate appointments.
Some clients choose the course because they are interested in bowel regularity, incomplete emptying, bloating, trapped wind or a sluggish bowel. Sixteen appointments also give your therapist more opportunities to review how you respond between sessions and adapt later appointments where appropriate.
The programme is usually completed over approximately five weeks. However, your therapist can discuss the timing and spacing of appointments according to your bowel habits, previous experience and response to treatment.
What is included in the programme?
- 16 colonic hydrotherapy appointments using our closed-system, gravity-fed equipment.
- Personal consultation to discuss bowel habits, digestive comfort and your reasons for choosing the programme.
- Suitability screening before treatment begins.
- Warm filtered water with controlled filling and release.
- Gentle abdominal massage where appropriate for comfort and release.
- Regular therapist review throughout the programme so later appointments can reflect your individual response.
Booking the programme online also gives you the current 21% online saving.
Why choose a 16-session programme?
A single colonic may suit someone who wants to experience colon hydrotherapy for the first time. Our three-, six- and 10-session packages provide progressively longer structured courses.
The 16-session programme is intended for clients who want the greatest continuity and the most opportunities for therapist review across a longer series of appointments.
Importantly, research has investigated repeated bowel and transanal irrigation, rather than proving that exactly 16 professional colonics are better than 10 or fewer sessions. We therefore use the evidence as clinical context for repeated irrigation rather than promising a particular result from a 16-session course.
What does research show about repeated bowel irrigation?
Researchers have studied repeated bowel irrigation in people with chronic constipation and difficulty emptying the bowel.
A 2025 systematic review examined 16 studies involving 1,567 people with chronic constipation and/or faecal incontinence. Most observational studies reported improvements in symptoms, quality of life or both. However, the authors also highlighted the need for further high-quality randomised trials.
Scientific source: PubMed PMID 41168141 – Transanal irrigation in chronic constipation and faecal incontinence.
A 2026 multicentre study followed 216 adults with functional constipation during long-term follow-up. Participants reported lower constipation severity and greater satisfaction with bowel function.
Scientific source: PubMed PMID 42011892 – Transanal Irrigation in Functional Constipation: Long-term Results.
An earlier prospective study of retrograde colonic irrigation also reported improvements in bowel-emptying symptoms in selected patients, including less feeling of incomplete evacuation.
Scientific source: PubMed PMID 18720454 – Prospective study of colonic irrigation for defaecation disorders.
These medical irrigation protocols are not identical to professional colon hydrotherapy at Parkland Natural Health. Nevertheless, they provide useful evidence that repeated irrigation has been studied as a bowel-management approach for selected people.
Colon filling and normal bowel reflexes
Colon hydrotherapy involves controlled filling and release. Human physiological research shows that rectal filling can engage normal sensory and motor responses involved in the urge to defecate and bowel emptying.
In one human study, researchers described a recto-colic reflex. When rectal filling produced the urge to empty the bowel, pressure and contractions increased in the left colon.
Scientific source: PubMed PMID 9028993 – Recto-colic reflex: role in the defecation mechanism.
This provides useful physiological context for controlled filling and release. However, we do not claim that repeated colon hydrotherapy permanently strengthens bowel muscles or guarantees independence from laxatives.
Abdominal massage and bowel comfort
Where appropriate, your therapist may use gentle abdominal massage during treatment. Researchers have also studied abdominal massage in adults with chronic constipation.
A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis reported improvements in bowel-movement frequency and constipation symptoms following abdominal massage.
Scientific source: PubMed PMID 39531948 – Effectiveness of abdominal massage on chronic constipation in adults.
This research concerns abdominal massage rather than colon hydrotherapy itself, but it provides relevant evidence for one of the supportive techniques we may use during an appointment.
Who may choose the 16-session programme?
This longer programme may appeal to clients who:
- want our most structured colonic hydrotherapy programme;
- prefer continuity over a longer series of appointments;
- are interested in more regular or predictable bowel emptying;
- experience a feeling of incomplete evacuation;
- are interested in support for bloating, trapped wind or a sluggish bowel;
- want regular therapist review throughout the programme;
- want the better-value 21% online package price.
Persistent constipation, unexplained abdominal pain, rectal bleeding or a lasting change in bowel habits should also be assessed appropriately by a GP or another healthcare professional.
What happens during each appointment?
Your therapist uses our closed-system, gravity-fed colon hydrotherapy setup with warm filtered water. Throughout the appointment, the therapist controls filling and release according to your comfort and feedback.
Gentle abdominal massage may also support comfort and release. At later appointments, your therapist can discuss how you responded since your previous session and adapt treatment where appropriate.
You can also discuss specialist options such as sodium bicarbonate, herbal preparations or probiotic implants. These are not automatically included in this package, and your therapist can explain suitability and any additional cost.
How should I prepare?
A quick tip: don’t drink any liquids two hours before your procedure. Besides, do not take laxatives or drink coffee before and after treatment. However, you don’t need to fast before or after visiting us.
Is the 16-session programme suitable for everyone?
Consultation and suitability screening are included. If screening shows that colon hydrotherapy is not appropriate for you, we will not proceed and we will give you a full refund.
You can also review our colonic irrigation suitability, restrictions and contraindications before booking.
Would a shorter course suit you better?
If you are completely new to colon hydrotherapy, you may prefer to start with our single colonic irrigation session with consultation.
You can also choose our 3-session Mini Detox, 6-session Spring Cleanse or 10-session Four Seasons course.
You can also compare all our colonic irrigation treatments and packages.

Alexander Smidt –
This clinic is the best place I have been to in the town. It is clean, well organized, professional, and, most importantly, the therapist is supportive, makes you feel comfortable at all time. The other places I have been to are not even close to the quality Parkland offers. And the prices are average. Highly recommended *
Simona Abis –
I’ve been doing colonic hydrotherapy for almost two years at Wellness Studio and my health has drastically improved. Anthony always manages to make me feel at ease and is always wiling to help with his knowledgeable expertise and invaluable advice. I would recommend colonic hydrotherapy to anyone, it’s pain-free, it takes only 40 minutes and at the end one feels much lighter and in a better mood.*
