What is a probiotic?

Role of probiotics in maintaining human health. What is a probiotic? What medicines are for the restoration of intestinal microflora in children?

Probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and kefir and yoghurts with probiotics(beneficial bacteria), lactobacilli and live yoghurt cultures beneficially affect intestinal microflora in the bowel cavity.

Probiotics are existing or specially bred cultures of live bacteria that positively affect the intestinal microflora. Those microorganisms’ name is probiotic.

Rules

As a rule, bacterial cultures are meant as probiotics, although other species can live among microorganisms that have proven their value, for example, yeast culture. But in most cases, probiotics are bacteria that live in the intestines.

The total number of microbes in the human body is several times the number of cells, and if we estimate the volume of microorganisms. It turns out that the weight of an adult includes symbiotic bacteria, and there are up to 3 kilograms of bacteria in an adult’s body!

Probiotics in the intestinal cavity

Most of the bacteria are in the intestinal cavity. It reduces the risk of the reproduction of pathogenic flora.

However, the pathogenic flora may multiply faster and suppress beneficial(Probiotic) bacteria. It leads to various consequences, ranging from stool disorders to ulcerative colitis. General deterioration of well-being up to long-term chronic disease states may also develop.

Mechanisms

Various diseases, an uneven and defective diet, a sedentary lifestyle and long-term antibiotic therapy can decrease the number of beneficial bacteria. As a result, harmful bacteria take over the large intestine.

Two mechanisms are the basis of the influence of probiotics on the body. Firstly, they help suppress the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and yeast infections. And secondly, they partially take on the functions of beneficial bacteria. Colonic irrigation, available in our clinic, improves the environment in the bowel. As a result, the intestinal microflora restores rapidly and becomes even more beneficial than before.
