What Research Can — and Cannot — Tell Us.
Colon hydrotherapy should not be sold through claims that it removes systemic toxins, cures disease, treats depression, eliminates parasites, causes fat loss or strengthens the immune system.
Its direct action is much simpler: water is used in the large bowel to support evacuation of bowel contents during the session.
Bowel Irrigation Research
A 2025 systematic review examined medical transanal irrigation for chronic constipation and faecal incontinence. It provides useful scientific context for controlled water-based bowel irrigation, but medical transanal irrigation is not the same as wellness colon hydrotherapy.
Abdominal Massage
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 23 studies involving 1,431 adults reported improvements in bowel-movement frequency, intestinal transit time and constipation symptoms with abdominal massage. This evidence relates to massage itself, not proof that colon hydrotherapy treats constipation.
Before Your Appointment
You do not need to fast or carry out a special cleanse beforehand. Eat normally, avoid a particularly heavy meal immediately before your appointment and maintain normal hydration unless you have been given different medical advice.
Colon hydrotherapy is not suitable for everyone. Relevant contraindications can include active gastrointestinal bleeding, certain inflammatory bowel conditions, recent major bowel or abdominal surgery, severe cardiovascular disease, renal failure, pregnancy and other health circumstances.
If suitability screening identifies a contraindication, treatment will not proceed, and we will provide a full refund.
