What Clients Value About a Colonic
Feel Less Full

A Sense of Reset
For many people, a bowel-cleansing session becomes a practical starting point for renewed attention to hydration, food choices and digestive routine.
Private, Unhurried Care
Your therapist stays with you throughout the appointment, explains what is happening, and adjusts the session based on your comfort and response.
A question more people are asking
What Is a Colonic — and What Actually Happens?
A colonic, also known as colonic irrigation or colon hydrotherapy, is a water-based bowel-cleansing procedure.
At Parkland, we gradually introduce warm filtered water into the large bowel using a closed-system, gravity-fed method. Water, bowel contents and gas are then released through enclosed tubing.
The therapist controls filling and release throughout the session and can adapt the process according to how you feel. We may also use gentle abdominal massage where appropriate.
A typical appointment takes around 60 minutes, including consultation.

What Your Appointment Looks Like
1. Talk With Your Therapist
Your appointment begins with a private conversation about why you booked, relevant health information, and what you would like from the session.
2. Relax Into the Session
Warm filtered water is introduced gradually. Your therapist manages filling and release and remains with you throughout the treatment.
3. Continue With Your Day
Afterwards, most clients simply continue with their normal day. Your therapist can answer practical questions before you leave.
Evidence Behind Some of the Techniques We Use
Research into water-based bowel management and abdominal massage provides useful scientific context for some of the practical techniques used during a therapist-led session.
Controlled Bowel Irrigation
A 2025 systematic review examined medical transanal irrigation in adults with bowel-management difficulties and provides useful context for controlled water-based bowel irrigation.
Gentle Abdominal Massage
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 23 studies involving 1,431 adults found improvements in bowel-movement frequency, intestinal transit time and constipation symptoms with abdominal massage.
These studies provide scientific context for related bowel-irrigation and massage techniques rather than being clinical trials of Parkland’s wellness treatment.
Comfort Starts With a Good Consultation
Before treatment, your therapist checks relevant health information and makes sure the appointment is suitable for you. This also gives you time to ask questions and feel comfortable before the session begins.
If screening identifies a contraindication and treatment cannot proceed, we provide a full refund.
